Marble Pavilion - Cultural Geometries

Catenary vaults built with marble waste. A spatial experience in architectural scale and sequence.

Looks paper thin > Structure only 1 inch thick with 2 layers of laminate

In our pavilion the ‘snake skin’ effect, the variety in the material and construction make a very heavy and solid structure seem lighter and accentuate its appearance of being ‘paper thin’.

Sustainable material use > Reclaim waste marble & material efficient structure

Sustain culture > Collaborative design > innovation

Antepavilion 2018

Competition entry in collaboration with an international design team.

Antepavilion 2018 sees Ouse dress to impress. A party gown, a dynamic outfit - she is venturing into a new stage of her life and we are excited to share this special moment for this retiring work vessel. Where often the world of design is overly serious, “Happy Retirement” unlocks joy and exuberance. A simple, inhabitable intervention sensitively tethers itself to the hardworking retiree.

‘Happy Retirement’ is the embodiment
of a celebratory event, a vision that invites everyone to have fun. Her cargo hold is appropriated as a sensational experience; alien forms gently float above creating an immersive space, a dynamic and articulated enclosure embraces the potential for Ouse’s future.

Design realisation
The proposal’s impact is delicate, using affordable and sustainable materials and methodologies. A floor, constituting plastic crates, will sit upon Ouse’s existing screed, avoiding compromising her existing characteristics.

The walls are to be lined with coloured foam. Above, a majestic formation of floating spheres are gracefully shrouded by a lightweight fabric veil that caresses the surface of the canal.

Disassembly Process of QE2 Ship

This video was made to highlight the importance of preserving great ocean liners such as the QE2. Hopefully this video will be the only time the ship will be seen undergoing such a process. The video also puts forward sustainability and humanitarian issues currently faced in ship breaking yards globally.
